Understanding the figures

What Can the Settlement Agreement Calculator Estimate?

An employment settlement offer can contain several different payments. The calculator separates the main financial parts so you can see how the figures may have been calculated and compare the estimated breakdown with the amounts in your employer’s offer. The result is an estimate only, so the figures should still be checked as part of a settlement agreement review before you sign.

Salary and Notice Pay

Estimate the value of your contractual notice period using your gross weekly pay and the number of notice weeks entered.

Outstanding Holiday Pay

Calculate an estimated value for unused holiday based on your weekly pay and normal working days.

Statutory Redundancy Pay

Produce an estimated statutory redundancy figure using your age, completed service and gross weekly pay.

Compensation and Other Payments

Add compensation, bonuses, commission and other contractual or termination payments to estimate the overall financial package.

Calculator FAQs

Common Questions About the Settlement Agreement Calculator

Is the Calculation Legally Binding?

No. The result is an illustrative estimate based on the information you enter. It does not determine what your employer must pay and does not replace the figures recorded in the settlement agreement. The complete document should still be checked as part of a settlement agreement review before you sign.

Does the Calculator Work Out Tax?

No. Different parts of a settlement agreement can receive different tax treatment. Salary, notice pay, holiday pay, bonuses and compensation may not all be treated in the same way. Your solicitor can explain the tax wording in the agreement, but specialist tax advice may be required in more complicated cases.

Does It Value an Unfair Dismissal Claim?

No. The calculator does not assess the strength or potential value of an unfair dismissal, discrimination, whistleblowing or other employment claim. That assessment depends on the circumstances, available evidence, possible financial loss and the legal issues involved.

Can It Calculate Statutory Redundancy Pay?

The calculator can provide an estimated statutory redundancy payment using your age, completed years of service and gross weekly pay. It does not automatically calculate an enhanced or contractual redundancy package offered under an employment contract or workplace redundancy scheme.

What Should I Do If the Offer Is Lower Than the Estimate?

First, check that the information entered matches your contract, payslips and proposed agreement. A difference does not automatically mean that your employer’s calculation is wrong. Ask your solicitor to check the relevant payment before the agreement is signed. If the offer does not reflect your circumstances, we can also explain your options for negotiating a settlement agreement .

Can I Use the Calculator If I Am Not Being Made Redundant?

Yes. Settlement agreements are also used for agreed departures, workplace disputes and other employment situations. You can still estimate notice pay, holiday pay, compensation, bonuses and other payments. The statutory redundancy figure will not apply if your employment is not ending because of redundancy. Our guide to settlement agreements for employees explains some of the other situations in which an agreement may be offered.

What Weekly Pay Figure Should I Enter?

Use your gross weekly pay before tax and other deductions. If your pay changes from week to week, the correct figure may need to be calculated from an average of an appropriate pay period. Regular contractual overtime, bonuses or commission may also need to be considered.

Why Might the Result Differ From My Employer’s Figures?

Differences can arise from the weekly pay figure used, contractual notice terms, working patterns, unused holiday, rounding or payments that have been treated separately. Your employer may also be offering an enhanced payment above the statutory minimum. A solicitor can check how each figure has been calculated and described.

Ask a Solicitor to Review the Offer

The calculator provides an estimate, but it cannot assess the legal claims being settled or the effect of the agreement’s wording. Our employment solicitors can review the complete document, check the payment figures and explain any terms that may require further attention before you sign.

The calculator result is an estimate and does not constitute legal or tax advice.
